Welcome to Our Blog

Thank you for celebrating this happy time in our lives with us. We've posted this blog so that our friends and family can get to know who it is exactly that we've fallen so crazy in love for; and so that we could easily provide you with information on our gift registry and directions to our UT reception as well as our WA open house. Thank you for your love and support. Information will be added as we find the time between work, wedding planning, and life in general, to sit at the computer and finally get it done, so keep checking back for more tid bits from us.

ATTENTION FAMILY AND GUESTS

For the courtesy, wellbeing, and health of some of our guests we ask you to please REFRAIN from wearing any perfumes, strong smelling lotions, hair spray, etc. to the reception/open house, or other functions. Thank you.

How We Met

Everyone always wants to know how the couple met, so here it is according to me, Vannesa Muir. I was still relatively new in our singles branch, testing the waters, seeing if I would even really be interested in going to the branch, and I didn't know too many people. I was introduced to Sam for the first time in the summer of 2009 by his previous girl friend Mindy. Seeing as he was "taken" and I wasn't looking for any kind of relationship I didn't think much about him. I was in the middle of working on getting my associates degree and had decided in high school that I was "never" going to get married and that I'd focus on school. Funny how plans change. I had a few friends over a few times to watch a few movies and play Guitar Hero, one of my favorite games on the Wii, and I invited Mindy over a couple of times, and since they were dating at the time, Sam as well. I didn't know much more about him other than his name was Sam and he was dating Mindy. I would have never in my wildest dreams thought that Sam would be on my couch holding my hand rather than Mindy's. In August I left for a three week trip to Denton, Texas. I stayed there with a friend of a friend and helped her out and grew to love the Pharo family and was seriously considering staying there. Sadly though my father and mother had decided in July that due to certain circumstances it was time to part ways and to take separate paths in life. Although there were many opportunities for me in Texas, and I enjoyed the company of my new friends, the Lord had other plans for me and I felt prompted to return to Utah and my family. During my stay in Texas Sam had randomly popped up on facebook and started to chat with me one night, asking me what I was doing in Texas and so forth. We talked once or twice on facebook while I was in Texas, and one night I mentioned to Sam something about horseback riding and he said that he had never been. I strongly believe that everyone should get a chance to ride a horse, so I told him that I knew a place in Utah that he could go horseback riding at a reasonable rate and that he should take Mindy with him. Sam then informed me that he and Mindy had broken up. So next thing I knew we were making plans to go horseback riding together when I returned to Utah. The date went very well and Sam learned a thing or two about riding a horse. He did rather well for his first time. After that we continued to talk on facebook every now and then and sat next to each other in church, went to the library a few times and worked on homework as school started, and things went on from there. I personally think we really hit it off. We held hands for the first time while watching Knowing at my house on September 16th, 2009. I got a lot of teasing remarks from the family after that. Remember, I had already decided I wasn't really interested in guys and that I was going to focus on school, so the family of course had to give me crap about it like any good family would. Sam and I shared our first kiss on September 21st, 2009. In all honesty it was my very first kiss and I was super nervous about it but Sam was really good about it, and super cute. September 23rd we agreed that we were exclusively dating each other. Sam had made plans to visit his family in January and invited me to come along. He found that it was more cost effective to fly into Portland, Oregon and drive the extra 2 hours to Sequim, WA. Sam proposed on the airplane on our way to Portland with the ring in a lovely blue velvet box (which I managed to lose sadly), and with 9 red roses (9 is my favorite number, it's what number child I am, I have 9 sisters and 6 brothers). Sam and I had been talking about getting married for awhile, so it wasn't like I wasn't expecting it, but it was a surprise. I really enjoyed the few days that we spent with his family, and they all made me feel very welcomed. My love for Sam has grown ever stronger as time has gone on. I truly believe that the Lord placed me in the right places at the right time. Sam has become my friend and I'm looking forward to being able to have him as my spouse and eternal companion.
